In August 2024, the Youth Leading Change Conference brought together 42 young participants in Palestine, marking a significant moment in youth-led gender justice efforts. Young women who had participated in previous conferences took the stage with newfound confidence, using “problem trees” to dissect and present the root causes of gender inequality in their society.
A key theme was the need to engage boys and men actively in supporting women’s rights, sparking vital conversations about shared responsibility for gender equality.
This discussion resonated, especially given the current political and economic challenges; participants expressed frustration over limited job opportunities and societal pressures, which affect everyone, especially those who do not conform to traditional roles.
The conference highlighted the importance of spaces where young people can openly discuss challenges and collaborate on solutions. The confidence shown by young women and inclusive discussions with male participants signals a promising shift toward more collective action for gender justice in Palestinian society.
